Change the storage type from the default ‘Dynamically allocated’ to ‘Fixed size’ to increase performance. You can also leave it dynamic, but it will be a little slow. The only advantage this option provides is, the virtual hard drive will only allocate the space that is being used. I.e, If you created hard drive of 15GB, and Ubuntu is using just 8GB then only 8GB of your physical hard drive will be consumed, and will increase when required. By default VirtualBox selects the minimum space required, which is 8GB. Which is too small for actual usage of Ubuntu.
