I just bought a WD My Passport 1T external hard drive - literally just out of the package. I connected it to my iMac and it powered up but did not show on my desktop nor in Finder. It does show in disk utility formated as MS-dos (FAT). There is no FAT32 option and when I researched the difference betweent the two I discovered they are the same thing. I tried connecting the Passport to my Macbook Pro and it worked fine - showed up on the desktop and I was able to access it ok. I already downloaded the WD Firmware Updater and did that. No difference.

The cable is USB3.0 compatable with USB2.0 I am currently running OS Lion as my Maverick installation was an absolute disaster. What else can I do? I bought it specifically to back up file from my iMac?
