Hi Since installing Office 2016 on my iMac the search function has stopped working. This is the outlook search box top right. Whatever i type in to search inbox, it just says no results. If i search using spotlight, i see no emails. It is all of Outlook not just mail, as contacts are also not found if i search contact. But if i search using spotlight it finds contacts. But if i then select, it says no card.
I have tried adding hd to spotlight privacy and removing again. But when i do a spotlight search it is constantly indexing. Sometimes it looks like it if finished, but then start again.
On the odd occasion it worked, then 10 minutes later the same search fails. I have also tried removing the.Spotlight-V100 folder.
I have no funny character in profile, i have even tried setting up a new profile. I am tempted to factory reset my iMac, as i don't keep much actually on it. But that seems a bit drastic and the fault may come back.
Thanks Terry. There was a bug introduced with El Capitan that interfered with Spotlight indexing if you had more than one user profile on the computer. Go into the /users folder on the hard drive and see if there is more than one user folder. If there is add the non-active user folders to the Spotlight privacy list. Then remove the.Spotlight-V100 folder and let Spotlight re-index and see if it then completes. If not, check your your console logs to make sure that Spotlight is not getting hung up on a particular corrupt file.
While you are at it you should check your disk directory integrity: 1. Reboot into recovery mode by holding down Command-R while booting.
Go into disk utility. In the left window click on the line that shows the manufacturer of your hard drive. Click on Repair Disk or First Aid.
Assuming that completes with no errors, click on the next line down in the left window which is likely Macintosh HD unless you have renamed your boot volume. Again, click on Repair Disk or First Aid. Hi, thanks for info. I only have 1 user, plus Guest and shared which i do not use either.

I am not a mac expert, can you tell me how to find spotlight logs. I had a look in console under reports, but cant see a spotlight section. I searched spotlight in console and got this 1 error: Nov 5 09:30:47 Terrys-iMac Spotlight[635]: notify name 'PSStoreChangedNotificatio nInternal' has been registered 20 times - this may be a leak i am currently doing a backup, and will try the disk checks when done.
Thanks Terry. Hi I came in this morning, did a search, nothing found. Tried several searches. While the outlook search in background was blank, i opened up spotlight.
I then keyed in same search for a contact. It was not showing that it was indexing. It thought about it for what seemed like 20 seconds, then things started to come up.
Then a few seconds later the outlook search in the background burst into life. I then went into search contacts. It showed no contacts. I tried a search, nothing found again i opened spotlight and search for a contact. With the outlook contact search in background. It found it, and then all contacts appeared in outlook search. I then do an email search, no results.
